The Holidays are a busy time for everyone; including The Traveling Hen. So I put on shorts and soaked within the cool river water for about 15 – 20 minutes earlier than getting again on. Passed from Idaho to Washington in Oldtown (as I had a number of days earlier in the different course) after which started north on the underside of the Loop (the S”). Espresso now carrying off, I decided that I would need to make a decision in Tiger, WA (if for no other cause that I liked the idea of decision-making in Tiger). Brave bunnies got here out of the bushes toward me as I sat within the grass in Tiger and regarded at the map. This was Wednesday afternoon. If I stayed north back into BC (27 miles away) I might get back to Salmo…have an awesome dinner at the Dragonfly Café and discover a place to stay, then continue west on #three. This would have meant riding all day Thursday and getting home someday on Friday.
For this, I blame Daniel Kalder and his e book ‘Lost Cosmonaut’ ( reviewed by DT right here ). Having read it a few years ago, lengthy earlier than I had ever set foot in the Former Soviet Union, his description of the Kalymk capital conjured up photographs of an absurd wasteland on the unhappy periphery of Europe, trembling beneath the megalomania of a chess-loving, enemy-assassinating dictator whereas slowly disintegrating into the mud of the limitless steppe surrounding it. I loved the e book and its description of Kalymkia, and was intrigued by concept of a Buddhist enclave inside Europe which was obsessed with chess and had nothing of any consequence to supply the world.
